Vittore Carpaccio, 1465-1526, was an Italian painter of the Venetian school. He embarked on the paintings that have since awarded him the distinction as the foremost orientalist painter of his age. The artist worked in the Doge's Palace, in decorating of the Hall of the Great Council. In 1515, he painted a Sacra Conversatione painting in then Venetian town of Capodistria which is hanging in its Cathedral of the Assumption. He is best known for a cycle of nine Vittore Carpaccio paintings, The Legend of Saint Ursula.
