Julius LeBlanc Stewart, 1855-1919, was an American artist. The Baptism ( now in Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1892), was shown at the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, and received acclaim at the 1895 Berlin International Exposition. A series of sailing works were most accomplished Stewart paintings. Late in life, he turned to religious subjects, but Stewart was best remembered for his Belle Époque society portraits and sensuous nudes. Stewart oil painting, Yachting on the Mediterranean, set a record price for the artist, selling in 2005 for US$2,312,000.
