John Singer Sargent, 1856-1925, an American artist, was the leading portrait painter of his generation. The painter created roughly 900 oil paintings, 2,000 watercolors, countless sketches and charcoal drawings. The commissioned Sargent art were consistent with the grand manner of portraiture, and landscape works displayed a familiarity with Impressionism. His form of Realism made brilliant references to Velázquez, Van Dyck, and Gainsborough. Sargent paintings display on exhibitions in major museums. In 2004, Group with Parasols, was sold for $US 23.5 million.
