John E. Ferneley, 1782-1860, was an English painter who specialized in portraying sporting horses and hunting scenes. He was regarded as one of the great British equine artists. John Ferneley paintings depicted hunting when it was extremely fashionable. His canvas became much sought after; his patrons included many Royals and personalities. Ferneley specialised in painting "scurries"。His panoramic artworks showed a sequence of events. John Ferneley oil painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy. John Ferneley College in Melton Mowbray, is named after him.
