John Brett, 1831–1902, was an English artist associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. In 1858 he exhibited "The Stonebreaker", the oil painting that made his reputation. Brett continued to paint carefully detailed landscape art. In his later years he painted more coastal works and seascapes. An exhibition in 2001 at the National Museum of Wales, Cardif, entitled “John Brett-a Pre-Raphaelite on the Shores of Wales”brought together many of the John Brett paintings from this period of his career.
