John Atkinson Grimshaw, 1836-1893, was a Victorian-era artist, known for his city night-scenes and landscapes that typified seasons or a type of weather; city and suburban street scenes and moonlit views of the docks in London, Leeds, Liverpool ，which were figured largely in John Atkinson Grimshaw paintings. On Hampstead Hill was considered one of his finest artworks. His urban scenes under twilight or yellow street lighting were popular. The later art included imagined scenes from the Greek and Roman empires. Grimshaw oil painting depicted the contemporary world, too.
