Frederic Edwin Church, 1826-1900 was an American painter, a central figure in the Hudson River School of American landscapes. Extraordinary detail, romanticism, and luminism was used in Frederic Edwin Church paintings. It was the Heart of the Andes that won Church fame when it debuted in 1859. Americans soon began to consider Church the “Michelangelo of Landscape Art” and he became one of the most renowned American artists. Church’s oil painting was reported to be worth about 12.5 million dollars today.
