Diego Velazquez, 1599-1660, was a Spanish Baroque painter who was the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV and one of the most important painters of the Spanish Golden Age. He painted scores of portraits of the Spanish royal family. Velazquez paintings was a model for the realist and impressionist painters. The Portrait of a Man is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Another Diego Velazquez oil painting portrait of an unidentified man, measures 47 x 39 cm, was sold at auction in 2011 for £3,000,000.
